Enforcement agencies arrested  more than 2,000 people for DWI between Thanksgiving and New Year’s Eve in 2013. Charlotte-Mecklenburg police and officers from two other area departments made four DWI arrests overnight at a checkpoint in east Charlotte’s Eastland area. The checkpoint was conducted from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. in the 5700 block of Central Avenue, near Reddman Road. Joining CMPD were police from Matthews and Cornelius. Police Sgt. NASHVILLE, Tenn.  – An on-duty Metro police officer was arrested overnight on DUI and firearm charges. Madison Precinct Officer Arthur Messmer, 44, was arrested after his supervisor said he smelled of alcohol. Messmer, who was a midnight shift patrol officer, was called back to the station shortly after roll call to handle some administrative matters. That's when his sergeant allegedly smelled alcohol on him, and asked him about it. Messmer allegedly said he had drank earlier in the day Monday. Police said he submitted to field sobriety tasks, which showed indicators of impairment. A blood test was done that will be analyzed by the TBI Crime Lab. MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO)  – State officials will be targeting 13 Minnesota counties over the next year in the crackdown on drunk driving, according to a Minnesota Department of Public Safety report released Friday. They are the 13 counties with the highest combined totals for DWI arrests and alcohol-related traffic deaths. The list includes Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, St. Louis, Dakota, Wright, Olmsted, Rice, Washington, Stearns, Sherburnek, Scott and Carver Counties. Fairport, N.Y. - A Fairport woman is being charged under Leandra's Law after being arrested for driving while intoxicated.Sheriff's deputies say Caroline White was driving erratically on Route 251 in Victor and was pulled over.Tests revealed she was intoxicated with her 2- and 4-year-old children in the car.White is charged with two counts of felony DWI and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. An 18-year-old is facing drunken driving charges, after a crash in San Carlos that sent eight people to the hospital. San Diego police say the 18-year-old crashed his Dodge Charger, carrying a total of four teens, into an SUV around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday on  Jackson Drive and Lake Badin .
