on-duty Metro police officer was arrested overnight on DUI

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – An on-duty Metro police officer was arrested overnight on DUI and firearm charges.
Madison Precinct Officer Arthur Messmer, 44, was arrested after his supervisor said he smelled of alcohol.
Messmer, who was a midnight shift patrol officer, was called back to the station shortly after roll call to handle some administrative matters. That's when his sergeant allegedly smelled alcohol on him, and asked him about it. Messmer allegedly said he had drank earlier in the day Monday.
Police said he submitted to field sobriety tasks, which showed indicators of impairment.
A blood test was done that will be analyzed by the TBI Crime Lab.
