Taos man charged with sixth DWI
37-year-old Taos man whose driver’s license was suspended after his fifth conviction on charges of driving while intoxicated was arrested Saturday morning (Feb. 22) for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Tomás Sandoval was stopped by a New Mexico State Police officer near the intersection of West Romero and Cuchilla roads shortly after midnight, according to a statement of probable cause filed in Taos County Magistrate Court.
Sandoval had allegedly been swerving in and out of his lane.
When a patrolman approached the vehicle, the 37-year-old reportedly switched seats with a woman riding with him.
He failed several field sobriety tests and claimed to have consumed five beers, according to court documents. A breath test demonstrated Sandoval had a blood alcohol content between .23 and .26. A blood alcohol content of .23 percent is consistent with a person weighing approximately 160 pounds consuming 10 12-ounce beers.
