Two dead in crash after DWI suspect flees Mebane Police

MEBANE — Two people died in an Orange County wreck after the driver refused to stop for Mebane police officers who attempted to pull the car over on suspicion of driving while impaired, according to a Mebane police press release.

The high-speed chase started at 1:23 a.m. Sunday near U.S. 70 and Buckhorn Road in Mebane, and proceeded east, with officers occasionally losing sight of the vehicle because of its high speed. Officers last saw the vehicle fleeing near Forrest Avenue in Efland.
