Lincoln teacher charged with DUI
A history teacher at Lincoln Middle School was charged with drunken driving on Tuesday after police said she struck a mailbox on her way home from school.
Christine Clarke, 51, was charged with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test and refusal to submit to a chemical breath test.
Police said the accident happened at about 3:55 p.m.
Police said Clarke was driving north on New River Road in Lincoln, when she crossed the center lane, ran over a mailbox and crashed into a snowbank.
When police responded to the accident, an officer said he could smell a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage and that Clarke had blood shot eyes and mumbled speech.
According to a police report, Clarke told police that she was coming from the Lincoln Middle School where she teaches.
Police said they found two empty bottles of vodka in the front seat of the car, and a coffee cup with a lid on it with an unknown substance that smelled like alcohol.
