Indiana University basketball player jailed for suspected OWI
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University forward Hanner Mosquera-Perea has been jailed after being arrested on preliminary drunken driving charges.
University police Lt. Craig Munroe says the 21-year-old sophomore was stopped by a campus police officer about 3 a.m. Friday after he started to go the wrong way down a one-way street near the Bloomington campus.
Munroe says the officer stopped the driver when hit a curb twice after correcting his car's direction. Munroe says Mosquera-Perea had a blood-alcohol content twice Indiana's legal limit of 0.08 percent.
IU Police Department Chief Laury Flint said more is expected from high-profile student athletes.
"I'm sure it is a lot of pressure for these young people. But they are looked up to and are expected to maintain a higher level than standard," Flint said.
