El Paso police officer suspended after DWI arrest
An El Paso police officer has been suspended after being arrested last month on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, a police spokesman said Friday.
Officer Danny Moreno, 25, was suspended for more than two weeks (84 hours) after he was arrested Jan. 23 when police pulled him over in the 9100 block of Gateway West between Airway Boulevard and Geronimo Drive, according to a police spokesman and a complaint affidavit.
About 2 a.m., a police officer pulled over a Jeep Wrangler after seeing the vehicle straddling the white lines between traffic lanes and jumping a concrete median with the vehicle's left tires, according to the affidavit filed by police.
"The defendant (Moreno) was observed to have slurred speech, blood shot eyes, poor balance, and had a strong odor of an unknown alcoholic beverage emitting from his person and breath," the complaint affidavit stated. "The defendant was asked where he was coming from. The defendant stated from Andales. The defendant was asked if he had anything to drink. The defendant stated yes, long island ice teas and shots of liquor.
