Man sentenced to 2 years in fatal DWI accident

KINGSTON, N.Y A 21-year-old New York City man is sentenced to two years in jail for driving drunk, killing a pedestrian and leaving the scene of the fatal accident.

Adrian Chernyk pleaded guilty in Ulster County Court in October to felony counts of vehicular manslaughter and leaving the scene of an accident, and misdemeanor counts of driving while intoxicated.

His blood alcohol level was .12, hours after his Range Rover struck 63-year-old Roman Terletsky on Aug. 4, 2007 in Kerhonkson.

Chernyk could have faced a maximum of 2 1/3 to seven years in state prison. The Ulster County District Attorney and some of TerletskyÂ’s family contended that Chernyk should serve a state prison sentence.

Judge J. Michael Bruhn on Monday sentenced Chernyk to two years in county jail.
