An Accident leads to dwi charge.Here A Rome man was arrested on drug charges after driving his vehicle into a ditch Wednesday night, according to state police in Marcy.Todd F. Smith, 39, of West Carter Road, was arrested after police responded to the scene of the property damage accident on Eureka Road, Sgt. Luigi Pedulla said this morning.“The call came in as one car off the road,” Pedulla said. “Other cars had stopped to assist, and (Smith) was not in the vehicle when troopers arrived.”Police arrived at the scene at about 11:30 p.m. and found a pickup truck in the ditch, Pedulla said.Smith was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving without a license, failure to keep right and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, Pedulla said. He did say what the controlled substance was.“This DWI will be a felony once he is indicted because of a previous conviction within 10 years,” Pedulla said.Smith was sent to Rome police lockup pending arraignment, Pedulla said.
